The Ministry of Education conducted Selection and Commendation of Advanced Collectives and Individuals of 2019 in the National Education System, and Prof. Su Yumin from the College of Shipbuilding Engineering won the “National Outstanding Teacher” award.

Since 1984, Prof. Su Yumin has been working in the field of teaching and research over the past 35 years. He has always devoted himself to teaching with full enthusiasm. In recent years, he has undertaken 11 undergraduate courses and many other courses for postgraduates and international students, and has cultivated more than 50 doctoral and postgraduate students. He has led his team to build a modular and characteristic curriculum system for the ship and marine engineering major with the most comprehensive curriculum system, the most well-structured teaching faculty, and the largest number of high-level talents cultivated in the world, which is the first of its kind in China, and which contributes greatly to the construction of the ocean robot major.
As a summary of his long-term talent training practices and experience, the project entitled “Building ‘One Body with Two Auxiliaries and Two Driving Forces’ Talent Training System, and Training First-class Engineering Talents in the Field of Marine and Marine Engineering” won the Second Prize of National Teaching Achievement; one of his undergraduate course “The Dancing Elf Underwater---Marine Carrier” was selected as the National Video Public Course; his co-edited textbook Principles of Submarine, which won the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Outstanding Book Award, was selected as the “Tenth-Five-Year Plan” textbook and the “Twelfth-Five-Year” National Excellent Book. This textbook has provided important references to the popularization of the industry and relevant basic theoretical knowledge.
Relying on the scientific spirit of “sit still, drill hard, and research in-depth”, Prof. Su Yumin’s team reached the peak of scientific research and smashed pieces of “hard bones” in their field. He has directed more than 20 scientific research projects: the 973 Project, the 863 Project, and some other research programs of the NSFC; He stands out with a number of leading domestic technology items and many of his research results have been widely used and applied; he has published more than 140 academic papers, has edited and authored 2 monographs; he has obtained the National Defense Science and Technology Invention Award, the National Defense Science and Technology Award, the Military Science and Technology Progress Award, the Provincial Natural Science Award, and many other provincial and ministerial awards. In addition, he has won the National Defense Science and Technology Industry Excellent Book Award and the Outstanding Book Award of Heilongjiang Province. His team was elected as “Defense Technology Innovation Team”.
